Tool Features & Input Parameters

The Subnet Calculator accepts standard IPv4 addresses alongside either CIDR prefix notations or dotted-decimal subnet masks:

Calculated Output Metrics

  • Usable Host Range: The first and last usable IP addresses available for static or DHCP assignment (e.g., `192.168.1.1` – `192.168.1.254`).
  • Total / Usable Hosts: The total address count ($2^{32-\text{CIDR}}$) and net usable host count ($2^{32-\text{CIDR}} - 2$).
  • Subnet Mask & Wildcard Mask: The standard dotted-decimal subnet mask and its inverse wildcard mask used in access control lists (ACLs) and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF).
  • Binary Notation: Binary representations of the IP address, subnet mask, and network boundaries for bitwise verification.
  • Subnet Splits / Child Subnets: Options to divide the target prefix into smaller equal-sized subnets (e.g., splitting a `/24` into two `/25` subnets or four `/26` subnets).
